1 Minute Typing Test

A 1 minute typing test is one of the most useful ways to measure typing speed. Sixty seconds is long enough to show your rhythm, accuracy, and focus, but short enough to repeat regularly without turning practice into a chore.

Why 60 seconds is a good benchmark

Very short tests can be affected by a lucky start or one mistake. Very long tests can measure endurance more than normal everyday typing. A 1 minute test sits in the middle. It can show how quickly you settle into a rhythm, whether accuracy drops when you go faster, and whether practice is improving over time.

How to take the 1 minute test

Sit comfortably, relax your shoulders, place your fingers near the home row, start when ready, keep going after mistakes, and review both WPM and accuracy at the end.

What your result may mean

  • 10–20 WPM: early beginner; practise home row and short words.
  • 20–35 WPM: developing typist; work on accuracy and confidence.
  • 35–50 WPM: useful everyday speed for many school and personal tasks.
  • 50–70 WPM: strong speed for many office and productivity tasks.
  • 70+ WPM: advanced speed, especially when accuracy remains high.

After the test, continue with typing practice texts or typing lessons.
