How to Increase Typing Accuracy

Accuracy is the foundation of useful typing. A high WPM score does not help much if you spend extra time fixing mistakes. Improving accuracy means training your fingers to move reliably, not just quickly.

Slow down enough to notice errors

If you keep making the same mistakes, reduce your speed until you can feel the correct movement. This is not failure; it is how muscle memory is rebuilt.

Identify your common mistakes

After a test, ask what went wrong:

  • Are you mixing up neighboring letters?
  • Are punctuation marks slowing you down?
  • Do capital letters break your rhythm?
  • Do you look down at the keyboard after errors?

Choose one pattern and practise it for a few minutes.

Use accuracy-first practice

Try typing a short paragraph with the goal of zero uncorrected mistakes. If you make an error, continue calmly. The aim is awareness and control, not perfection under pressure.

Combine accuracy and speed later

Once accuracy is consistent, use the typing speed test to measure whether your improved control also raises your practical WPM.
